Week 2 BALT 4396- Reconsidering Majors

Being a psych major, I plan to get my masters in clinical psychology to become a Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC)

The job outlook for LPCs is very strong. Employment in this field is expected to grow by 18% from 2022 to 2032, which is faster than the average for most occupations. This growth is driven by a greater need for mental health services in schools, hospitals, and community centers. More people are becoming aware of mental health issues, and the stigma around seeking help is decreasing, making this a growing field.

When it comes to salary, the average LPC in the United States earns about $71,915 per year. However, salaries can vary depending on location. For example, in Illinois, LPCs earn an average of $84,006 per year. These differences can be due to factors like the cost of living and the demand for mental health services in different areas.

Automation and artificial intelligence (AI) pose little risk to this profession. There's only about a 10% risk that mental health counseling will be automated in the future. This is because the job requires a high level of human interaction, empathy, and the ability to understand complex emotions—things that AI cannot easily replicate. While AI can help support mental health through apps and online tools, it cannot replace the personal touch and deep understanding that human counselors provide.

Overall, becoming an LPC offers a stable career with good pay and the chance to make a positive difference in people's lives.
